Mr Justice Shaw, delivering judgment in the Kauri Timber Co.'s case, remarked that, it had long been the law of Great Britain that the exhaustion of capital, however treated on strict actuarial principles, might be considered as a profit for purposes of taxation. "SIR LOIX." Their Majesties dined at Houghton Tower, Chorley, where, according to a discredited story, the King knighted a loin of beef with the title of "Sir Loin."

The King has ordered medals to be struck for members of the Scott expedition .
AN ARTIST'S REVENGE
An artist at Lowestoft was prosecuted by his wife for cruelty. He waited outside the Court and wounded his wife and a friend with a revolver. He shot dead a fisherman coming to their rescue. The artist then committed suicide.
