TARANAKI RUGBY UNION.
MATCH ARRANGEMENTS. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union was field at Stratford last night, when tlire were present Messrs Jas. McLeod (chairman), T. Buchanan, G. Glenn, A. Lees, Jas. Garcia, R. Masters (treasurer), and P. Skoglund (secretary). A cablegram was received from Mr Parata, manager of the Maori team now in Australia, asking for a match on the 9th or 10th of July. Tho secretary stated that he had wired suggesting a later date, but failing this had accepted July 10th, the match to be played at Stratford. No reply had been received from Parata, who would not arrive in Auckland until to-day (Friday). The secretary’s action was confirmed. In the event of this match being played, the Clifton —Stratford match set down for that date will be played at Stratford on July 24th.
The Wairarapa Rugby Union wrote asking that the date of the match against Wairarapa should be changed from August 27th to August 28th, as Thursday was the half-holiday for the Wairarapa. It was resolved to adhere to the 27th, and suggest Carterton as the venue.
In reply to a ■communication from the secretary of the Manawatu Rugby Union, it was decided to play Manawatu on the way down to Wellington on Wednesday, August 20. The play-offs were fixed as follows: -—Saturday v. Thursday, at New Plymouth, July 24 or July 26. The final will be played against Waimato at Eltham on July 31. A North v. South match will' be pMyed at Manaia on August 6. It was resolved to place a B team in the field this year, and to ask Auckland to send a B team to New Plymouth on August 21. It was decided to t|ie B team to Wanganui and Horowhenua and to suggest August 28 and 31 as suitable dates. The secretary of the Tukapa Football Club wrote protesting against the postponement of the TukapaStratford match set down for decision on June 21, and the substitution of the Tukapa-CHfton match on that date. He pointed out that the reason given for the alteration, viz., that several of the Stratford players would bo at Palmerston North, was insufficient. This, they considered, created a dangerous precedent. Mr Buchanan pointed out that he was under the impression that Stratford would have six men away at Palmerston North and would have been compelled to forfeit the match. This meant that there would have been no more senior matches in the north end, as Tukapa would then have won outright. In order to keep the senior players going, he agreed to make the alteration.
Tho letter was received, members being of opinion that it must not be regarded as a precedent. Mr D. J. Malone forwarded a lengthy letter embodying some suggestions for the improvement of Junior football, and also urging the formation of a, B. rep. team. He also enclosed a cheque for £1 Is as a subscription to the Union’s funds. Messrs C. O’Carroll, C. Bayly, J. Burt Veale, Jos. Hunter, S. D. Hughes, and H. Good, old representatives, wrote thanking the Union for their 'courtesy in forwarding life members’ j tickets. . j The Ohura Football Club wrote enclosing £1 Is, and a£ked to be affiliatjed to the Taranaki Rugby Union. A a | Ohura is situate some eighty miles from Stratford, it was resolved to forward the secretary a copy of the rules and ask him to endeavour to form a sub-district there. Aka (Waimate), and Beta (Okaiawa), who have been suspended since the beginning of the season for rough play, were cautioned, and Luke (Okaiawa) was ordered to stand down till the end of the first round next season for swearing. As North Taranaki is the only division in which school football is run on a sound basis, it was resolved to apportion £lO among tho competing schools in that division. As the country schools have most travelling, it was decided to vote Stratford, Inglewood, and Waitara £2 each, and West End, Central, Fitzroy, and High School Preparatory £1 each. The following transfers were approved :—D. Cameron, Wanganui to Stratford, and J. McLeod, Opunake to Manaia.
