NORTH TARANAKI HUNT.
MEET AT STRATFORD. A meet of the North Taranaki Hunt was held at Stratford yesterday, fourteen New Plymouth members and a dozen local members taking part. The Hunt had secured permission to hunt over the land bounded by the water line, Cardiff Road and Pembroke Road, and a highly enjoyable day war spent. A good number of fences had to be negotiated, but no spills oor curred. No kills were recorded, hares being io plentiful that the hounds were continually changing scants. However, the run was thoroughly en-
joyed. Before the meet the local members entertained the visitors from New Plymouth and Waitara at luncheon at the Stratford Hotel.
Mr A. J. Davey, deputy-master, who did the honors, extended a hearty welcome to the visitors and thanked them for mustering so strongly despite the unpromising weather. Mr Davey also expressed the thanks of the Hunt to property-owners who had willingly given permission to hunt over their farms.
Mr A. H. Halcombe, master, returned thanks on behalf of the visitors. It gave the northern members great pleasure to be present, and ho was sorry circumstances had prevented a bigger muster. The Stratford members never failed to attend the meets in the north and were all “jolly good sports.” ITo added his thanks to the landowners, who, if wished, might advance many reasons for refusing to open their land to hunting. Thanks were also duo to the Stratford members for securing the permission to hunt.
