WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING
At the monthly meeting of the Whangamomona County Council on Wednesday there were present : Crs Meredith (chairman), McCutchan, Higgins, Cleland, Bacon and Roberton. Mr Hasmus Anderson was granted leave to erect a temporary shop on the corner opposite the hotel. Messrs Needham Bros’ tender (£lB4 Ds 4d) was accepted for the formation of half a mile of Kohi Road. The Public Works Department wrote in reference to Mangaoata Road. It was decided to refer the Department back to the original letter and to ask for a definite reply as to the reinstatement of the road. It was decided to ask the Public Works Department to take over complete control over a portion of Mangaoata Road, where the tram occupied the whole of the roadway. Settlers have no option but to drive on the tramway, which is very unsafe, and the Council desired to bo free of liability for any accident. The balance in the hands of the Public Works Department (£6 13s lid) was accepted for the repair of Mangaoata Road. The olfer of the Public Works Department of £2OO for work on the Putikituna bridge was accepted. . The Clerk was instructed to prepare the necessary papers preparatory to Mangaoata stream bridge. . Needham Bros, were granted £l2 10s for removing slips on Kohi 'Road. It was decided to ask if Whitianga No 2 B. block was to be put on the market, as several settlers were waiting new land. The Clerk was instructed to write to the Clifton County Council asking what portion of sec. 4, block XVI, Upper Waitara, had been rated in past years. Action in connection with rates on sections in Marangae Block is to be deferred pending an opinion being obtained from Mr Martin. i The Engineer was instructed to prepare specifications for the renewal of the Mangaotuku stream bridge. Foreman Langdon was authorised to impound all stock running on County roads; and where the practice is persisted in he will inform the County ranger with a view to a prosecution being instituted. The Engineer was instructed to widen the Whangamomona Road at the tunnel opposite Mr Agostinelis’s house, and to erect a lamp at the corner of Whangamomona township opposite Mr Aylward’s shop. The Engineer and Chairman are to interview the Resident Railway Engineer regarding repairs to Whangamomona township streets. . : ; n It was decided to obtain a freehold title to the land constituting the Kohuratahi pound site. In view of the time when, the current year’s rates will be struck, the clerk was instructed to prepare a table showing the financial position of all roads, the amount any road war ,in debt prior to March 31st and also the amount of rates, etc., credited to each road last year. Legal proceedings are to be taken to recover rates in arrears on sections in Strathmore township.
