THE YANKEE STYLE.
At the close of the recent session of the Californian Legislature it is stated that no loss than three thousand little Bills were laid to rest with the slaughtered innocents of past ages. This staggering number suggests that they arc more rapid in California and don’t waste much time in talking—in Parliament at any rate. One of these Bills proposed to make it a felony to be concerned in any way with a boxing match or a' prize-fight, 'another to regulate the activities of lobbyists, requiring them to obtain credentials from the Secretary of State, and another to abolish the Assembly and vest all legislative authority in one House composed of forty members. It -might (the Lyttelton Times says) he worth while for New Zealand to pa6k off the whole of its Ministers to the Panama-Pacific Exposition next year in order that they might have an opportunity to study Californian politics on the spot. The permanent heads of departments under the direction of the Public Service Commissioner could keep the machinery of government running during their absence.
