THE CUSTODY OE A CHILD
[Per Press Association.] Wanganui, June 11
An interesting case, regarding the custody of a child, occupied Judge Chapman all day and this evening, and is unfinished. It concerns one Thelma Gilberd, twelve years of age. Since the age of one and a half years, and until about fifteen months ago, she resided, except for sundry intervals, with her uncle, John Forbes. There was no formal legal adoption. Proceedings were .opened in Wellington, when the Chief Justice ordered the child to remain in the custody of her uncle pending the hearing of the suit' in Wanganui, and made a rule nisi in Gilberd’s favor. The application to-day was by Gilberd' to have the decree made absolute, and the child returned to her parents. i MUNICIPAL MONEY., Wanganui, Jufie 11. With regard to the Gisborne Borough's proposal to accept money on temporary loans from local residents, this is no new 1 scheme as far as Wanganui is concerned. Some three years ago the then Mayor inaugurated a scheme by which money is accepted repayable at call. Rate of interest is ;U instead of four per cent, as proposed by Gisborne. The found great favor, the amount deposited being usually some £20,000.
