WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The meeting of the Whangamomona County Council was held on Wednesday, members present being Crs A. Meredith, W. A. McCutchan, W. Bacon, X. 1?. Cleland, E. B. Roberton, J. Diggins, A. Coyne, and J. McClnggage. The Engineer's report was read and adopted. Cr Cleland moved and Cr Bacon seconded that the Public Works Department be asked to votc*£2o for removing slips on the Mangaowata Road.—Carried. The Chairman moved and Cr Diggins seconded thaj; application be made to the Public Works Department for a subsidy on a £ for £ basis on the amount of three contract© at present in progress in lieu of the application already made for a £7OO subsidy.— The motion wat> carried. It was decided to defer the matter of scheduling the accrued "thirds" until the next meeting, and to advise the Commissioner of Crown Lands to that effect. A motion by 'Cr McCutchan that tho Council's fixed deposit Avith the Bank of Australasia he re-deposited for another twelve months was amended by Cr McCluggage to the effect that the county solicitors he asked to find good security for £loio for .12 months and submit same to the Council.—The amendment was lost and the motion carried. In regard to the bridge rate in the Strathmore riding, it was resolved that the settlers be informed that the Council lias no power to comply with their request as a bridge rate is a riding rate, and that they be in formed that only a fractional part oi' the one farthing rate will be collected now, and that it is competent for riding boundaries to be altered at any time.
Re the circular letter from the New Zealand County Council's Association, notifying a conference, it was decided that the chairman (Mr Athol Meredith) be the Council' ©delegate.
It was decided to send a remit to the Counties' Conference protesting •igainst the Land and Survey Department's action re notices of transfers of Crown Lands, especially' in tincases of forfeiture. On the motion of Cr McCutchan seconded by the chairman, it was decided that the good offices of the member for the district be requested in securing a visit from .the Minister of Public Works, before Parliament goes into session, as his; personal inspection and investigation would do much towards the settling of the question as to the restoration of the main road destroyed by the 'PtiilJlic J Works traffic. / , u,; ; I j:) A communication was received from the Public Works Department vesting the Margaowata and Mangare roads in the county. The committee set up to deal with the Mangar.e. Block rates -for 1909-10 brought down „jts written report, and the findings, of'jithe cqmmittee were agreed to. ';'»{} '.. .j ( ; The chairman moved that the engineer be instructed to call tenders up to £3OO for a further length of formation in the Upper Mangaehu Road, tenders to close at the next meeting. —Carried. /
It was decided to instruct the enginerr to put the lower end of the Putilutura Road in repair. The following motion was moved by Cr McCutchan , seconed by Cr Bacon and carried—" That as the stock passing to and from the district has now reached very large dimensions, the Minister of Public Works be requested to expedite the erection of the trucking yards at the Whangamomona station, and that his request be sent to Mr G. T. Murray, engineer in charge of the railway construction works, asking for his favourable comment and transmission to the Minister."
Accounts to the amount of £645 14s 6d were passed for payment.
