DAMAGES FOR LIBEL.

Mr George Balfour, an engineer's employee, and the Unionist candidate for Govan (Lancashire), at the last election, sued the Glasgow Daily Record and Mr Ben Tillett for libel. It was alleged that Mr Tillett circulated amongst the newspapers allegations that on Mr Balfour rested the responsibility for a strike. The case was settled by the payment of a £IOOO damages.
