A PRISON ESCAPEE.

[Per Press Association.] Auckland, May 27., A man named Daniel South escaped from custody at the Auckland police station cells this morning. South is a single man, aged 33 years, who was arrested in Wellesley street last night about 9 o’clock, on a charge of being disorderly while drunk. He gave a good deal of trouble while, being arrested, and further charges of assaulting Constables Millar and Hill, and resisting a constable in the exe cution of his duty, were preferred against him. This morning, about 7 o’clock, when the prisoners were receiving some attention, South appears to have taken advantage of a momentary opportunity when the door of the cell yard was unguarded to slip away quietly and escape.
