LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.
TWO ESTATES ACQUIRED. [Per Press Association.] Wellington, May 21. The Prime Minister stated to-day that tho Government had completed the purchase of two additional estates for closer settlement purposes. The first is known as tho Lake Run, in the Top House district, Nelson. It comprises 2916 acres of freehold and 2786 acres of Crown leasehold. This will givo access to Crown lands in the Howano block, which are now being opened up for settlement. The land is suitable for pastoral and agricultural purposes, and will bo subdivided with portions of tho Crown lands, this giving settlers a fair amount of open grass land on which to begin farming. The other estate comprises 3163 acres, near Fortification Hill, Waimahaka, Southland, purchased from Washbourno Bros. Tho land is suitable for mixed farming.
