Speaking at the Auckland Provincial Farmers’ Union Conference, the President (Major Lusta), referring to the unrest amongst workers as affecting farming districts, said: “It appears that there is no other sure way of protecting our industries from dislocation, and ruinous delays, and absolute blackmailing than by a firm and positive agreement between all farmers personally to shear, slaughter, ship, or. qjiship. whenever or wherever strikes occur, which threaten to damage our business.” The president’s observations were applauded. WELLINGTON SUPREME COURT. Wellington, May 22. Joseph H. Smith, a Territorial lieutenant, charged with indecency on the Trenthara. Rifle Range, was remanded until 28th May. Bail was allowed in one surety of £IOO and a personal bond of £IOO. John Healy, for brutal assault on his wife, sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.
