WORK AND WAGES.

STRIKE AT THE BLUFF. [Per Press Association.] ‘ Invercargill, May 21. A strike occurred at the Bluff wharf to-day in connection with the loading of the Whakatane. Members of the Waterside Union protested against the employment of a non-unionist tally clerk, and demanded that his services be dispensed with. The demand was refused, whereupon the unionists struck. The watersiders held a meeting at which a discussion took place as to whether the tally clerk was legally a waterside worker, and it was mentioned that Mr Justice Sim had decided to the contrary. The meeting decided to obtain a legal opinion on the point, and work was resumed after a half-hour’s delay.
