A DENTIST CHARGED.

THE CASE DISMISSED. [Per Press Association.] Whangaroi, May 21. Mr Fraser, S.M., was engaged until a late hour last night and again today hearing a claim brought by James Kirkup, farmer, of Huntiy, against Harold dentist, Whangarei, on behalf of Annie Pringle, aged 18, postmistress at Ruapekapeka, for the maintenance of kn illegitimate child, of which, it was claimed, Clarke was the father. • 1

The evidence of the girl Pringle was that while at defendant’s dental surgery having her teeth attended to she was given a noxious drug which reduced her to unconsciousness, during which time she had been criminally assaulted by the defendant without her knowledge. She made no complaint until five months afterwards, when she discovered she was pregnant. Demands were made on her behalf for personal damages and expenses. The Magistrate, in giving judgment, said that he declined to believe the story on which the claim for maintenance rested. Medical evidence convinced him that the evidence given by Miss Pringle could not be believed. He dismissed the case.

[The defendant (Clarke) in the action, is an ex-resident of Stratford, and was in partnership with Mr Hunter, dentist, in Stratford, about two years ago."
