“DISGRACE TO OUR RACE.”
.THE LADIES’ TOTE AT ADELAIDE \ Adelaide, May 13. .AT the annual meeting of Tattersail 3 Club to-day, Mr LI. W. Varley moved that it bo a recommendation to the committee to seriously consider the advisability of dispensing with the ladies’ totalisator at future race meetings of the club. Mr Varley said he thought it was a disgrace and a shocking thing to racing men to see what took place in connection with the ladies on their racecourses. “It was a disgrace to our youth,” he continued, “whether male or female.” The one blot on racing was the scene witnessed at every race fixture in connection with the ladies’ totalisator; and if members were patriotic they would support him in the motion. The ladies’ totalisator was used, not by women alone, but by men, who made it a medium for placing small sums of money. The thing was a curse. Mr B. Thomson opposed the motion, and said he regarded the ladies’ total!safer as a good institution. The motion was lost, the voting in its favour being 34 against 55.
