BOROUGH FINANCE.
THE YEAR’S ESTIMATES. The estimates for the year 1913-14 were submitted at the adjourned meeting of the Borough Council last night, and were considered in committee. They were finally adopted in toto. The following provisions are made: —Salaries, £446; administration, £75; general expenses, £137; fire , prevention, £108; lighting, £523 (including £3BO for street-lighting, £39 for the erection of new lights, £3O for purchasing globes for street lights, and £7O for repairs and renewals). The apportionments for the streets fund are as follows;—Overseer, £140; wages, £1000; kerbing and chanelling, £300; timber, cement, tools, etc., £115; tar, £25; roller requisites and fuel, £SO; 2000 yards boulders at 4s, £400; royalty for crusher, £6O; 600 yards pit gravel, £120; sundries, £225; three planting,' £25; horses and drays, £135; reading room and library, £7O; Town Hall, £100; Hospital and Charitable Aid, £185; bank interest and charges, £125; contingencies, £302. The sum total is £sOll, and this is represented on the receipt side as follows -General rate arrears, £22; 10 per cent, additional on rates, £10; rent of reserves, £780; Government' subsidy on rates, £188; license fees, £600; water rates, £720, arrears, £4; general rate of 3d in £1 on £215,000, £2687.
