T Hl' R S DAY ’ S COM P ETITI (INS. The Stratford Fire Brigade ran off a series of events yesterday on their practice ground, the competitions being watched by two interested spectators. Evidently the charm of a •‘lire show” no longer attracts the pub-

Lieutenant \V ilson and Foreman Burgess tied for first place, a slack joint giving the former i one-second penalty. In the runoff, Foreman Burgess won by the narrow margin of one-fifth seconds. Captain Grubb and ex-Captain Kivell act’d as judges, and Fireman Walsh and Mr Penny as starter and time-keeper respectively. It is hoped that the aext competitions will be held in Vienna Park, the Council having pronised to place on the estimates a. sum sufficient to provide for the installation in the Park of a lire plug. When •:his is done, residents may possibly be disposed to show just a little interest in the Brigade. It’s not charity, for
