RIDDIFORD v. THE CROWN.

VERDICT FOR £382,000. Wellington, May 9. The judgment of the Full Court, delivered this morning, in the case Riddiford v. the Commissioner of Stamps, went in favor of,the Crown. The duty in dispute amounted to £382,000. The Court held that both estate and succession duty were payable in respect of the property included in the deed of partnership entered into between the late E. J. Riddiford and his sons, and that property forming part of the deceased’s estate under the provisions of the Death Duties Act, 1909. It held further that duties were assessable on the value of the property as at the death of deceased.

Qn the motion of Mr Myers, leave was granted to appeal to the Privy Council.
