FIRE.

A BLAZE AT WESTPORT. [Per Press Association.] Westport, April 27. A fire occurred at five o’clock this morning in the premises owned by Mrs Garrick and occupied by Carey as a fish shop. The fire destroyed the back portion of the building and the stock. It extended to the adjoining premises, also owned by Mrs Garrick, and occupied by Mrs Palmer, stattioner, doing damage to the ceiling. The fire also extended in the opposite direction, doing some damage to a building owhed by Mrs Green, and occupied by J. C. Young, auctioneer, on the ground floor, and Misses Gordon and Bird, tea-rooms, on the second floor. The ceiling of the kitchen of the latter was burnt through and considerable damage done by water and smoke. Most of the damage done to Young’s was by smoke and water. The latter’s premises were the scene of a recent fire. Garey has £2OO insurance on his stock and furniture in the Guardian Office, Mrs Palmer £6OO in different offices on her stock, which is much damaged by smoke, Mrs Garrick £3OO on the building occupied by Carey in the Commercial Union Office, and it is also understood that Palmer’s building is insured. HOUSE DESTROYED. Auckland, April 28. A. six-roomed house on the Gore Road," Devonport, owned by J. W. Carson and occupied by R. M. Rae, was destroyed by fire early this morning. The building was insured for £4OO in the London and Lancashire Office, and the furniture for £l5O in the New Zealand Office. A FLAXMILL BURNED.

Invercargill, April 28. A flaxmill at Mok'oreta, owned by Mr Adam Hall, was destroyed by fire early on Sunday morning. The origin is unknown. It is estimated thai. the loss is £4OO, which includes"'' a quantity of fibre.
