STRATFORD GOLF CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual'meeting of the Stratford Golf Cluh was held last evening, when the President (Mr A. W. Pudge) presided over an attendance of seventeen members. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, the Chairman said that he considered the report was of a very satisfactory nature, as was the balance-sheet, which Showed’ receipts £lll2 12s Dd, and expenditure £l5B 8s Id, leaving a debit balance of £25 15s Id. In 1911 the Club had a credit balance of £l3 8s Id, members’ subscriptions being £sl against £7(l last year, and ladies’ subscriptions £9, against £24 10s last season. Apparently there were no arrears collected. Labour was £ls

IDs lid, as against £53 : 3a (kl in the previous year. Other items were new pavillion £6l 3sSd, of which expenditure there was of course no re-occur-rence. A credit balance, of £l3 8s | Id had been turned into a debit balance of £33 18s lid, but now the Club stood in the happy position of having a debit balance of only £2o 15s Id. In the statement of assets and liabilities, and he might say that the assets were put down at the very lowest estimate, the total assets were £9l 13s lOd, and there was a surplus of £6l os Bd. It gave him very great pleasure, indeed ■to | move the adoption of such a report and balance-sheet. Of course they all knew full well to whom such a satisfactory condition of affairs was to he attributed, and that was to the secretary. The Club had been most successful in its cnoice in this respect; ilie fact that there was, not one outstanding subscription spoke for itself. Mr k'. Unjacke seconded the motion, which was then carried amidst applause. The Chairman then moved that the Club place on record its. appreciation of the services of the secretary (Mr S. Spence). “This balance-sheet,” said Mr Budge, “is so much ahead of anything we have had before and you all know to whose indefatigable work and .energy it is due, that 1 think this might bo carried with acclamation.” The response was a hearty one. The next business was the election of officers for the ensuing year, and Mr Spence, in moving that Mr A. W. Budge bp re-ejected to.this-important position, paid a graceful tribute to the services rendered by the Club’s chief .officer. ; Mr Spence, remarked that a good deal, of the success of the ; Club was due (o its president, and in tlio instance of the Stratford Golf Chib more than a little cerdit was due to the energies of Mr- Budge. A whole lot of .credit was due. to Mp and, j .Mrs Budge, 'and to Mr Grant' (the Club’s vice-jjrssl(feit), arfd Mrs Grant. Mij Budge a* for some time of tlio President’s position,

hut lie thought ..that this was a position >v f h ( iph tillect by’ a man like*Mr Budge. '“Wo don’t like a roving president,” added Mr Spence. “Keep a gjpofi ipan when ( g.ot. r and Biglgo' is 'with us there a cpntin;uance, ( of r jthatj sweet which existed members.,”, The motion wa,,s carried bv- acclamgr tioh. Other officers elected .-typ)re:— Uniacke apd A. F. Grantj,.secretary and treasurer, Mr S. Spence; club captain, Mr R. Spence; committee, Messrs S. Macalister, J. R.. L. Stanford, F. X. Fussed, and C. Wright', lion, auditor, Mr P. Skoglund. The Chairman moved, in accordance with notice of motion, that all those country members “being outside a radius of eight miles be admitted to the Club on payment of an annual subscription of £1 for men and 10s for ladies. After a short discussion, the motion was amended to read “five miles”, and was then duly carried. ft was also decided that honorary members be admitted at a subscription of one-quarter the usual rate, with a minimum of os. Votes of thanks were passed to Messrs A. W. Budge, J. 11. L. Stanford, F. X. Fussell, R. Spence, and W. J. Crawshaw for the donation of trophies, and to the retiring officers and committeemen. , ■ ■ The opening day was fixed for next Thursday.
