PANAMA CANAL.
THE QUESTION OF TOLLS. (Received 8.20 Am.) London, April 16. Reuter’s Washington correspondent states that President Wilson has formally intimated that Britain will be able to interpret the Hay-Pauncefoote treaty as to make it improper to exempt American, coastal vessels from the Canal tolls. He added that a favourable adjustment would ultimately bo forthcoming; meanwhile they realise that the tolls question, if precipitated at present, might divide the Democratic majority and hinder the more important tariff question.
