' arrangements for new PLYMOUTH/ [Per Press Association.] Wellington, April 14. A communication was received at last night’s meeting of the Council, from Mr J. Clarke (secretary of the Recreation Sports Grounds Committee), asking that in making arrangements for the entertainment of officers and men of H.M.S. New Zealand during their stay in New Plymouth, one afternoon he allotted for the officers and men to attend a garden party to be held in the Recreation Sports Ground during' their visit, the officers and men to he the guests of the committee who would be running the fete. It was intended to make a small charge to the general public to defray expenses, and the profits, if any, to be used for the improvement of the Sports Ground. The proposed entertainment was favorably commented on by the Mayor and Councillors. The date of'the departure of the ship from New -Zealand cannot be altered. The date of arrival at each place on the coast of New Zealand is necessarily now fixed. Where the visit is at a place where the ship cannot lie within the harbor, she will stay only if the weather permits her beingtendered; otherwise she will leave to keep her date at the next place. It is desirable, therefore that in all such cases arrangements be made on shore to see the ship pass in the offing.
