The weather was line, am 1 the drive and scenery were glorious The visitors were hospitably treated and the game resulted in a win for Toko, 47—45. Urquhart (Toko), G—3; Messrs Stewart senr. and W. Steuart (Te Wera; beat Messrs W. H. Were and V Fabler (Toko), G—2. PICNIC AND SPORTS SOCIAL. On Thursday last the Toko Settlers’ Picnic and Sports Club field - their annual social in the Coronation Hall, which proved a great success, and was one of the largest gatherings evei held in Toko, people coming from al parts of the district, as far as Ha were and Inglewood. The hall was taxed to the utmost, fully a hundred coupler taking the floor, and still leaving i ciowd of spectators on the stage, ’flu dance music was supplied by Mrs Bi anchi (piano) and Mr Walsh (violin). Extras were kindly played by Mr Brodow (Douglas), Miss Corbett (Toko), and Mr Walsh (Xgaere). During the evening songs were rendered by Mrs Rudkin (Tariki) 2, Miss Ctiinberwortli (Toko), and Miss J. Auld (Tuna), and were much appreciated. The dutie;: of M.C. were carried out by Messrs Gernhoefer and Kilpatrick. The catering for the supper was done by Mr J. A. Stanford, and the general comment was on its excellence. Groal credit is due to the ladies who waited on the tables considering the number they bad for supper. The names are as follows: Mesclames Bocock, 1 ratt Kilpatrick, Geniiioefer, Riley, Morri son, and Miss Dempster. Daucia;: was kept up till half past two o’clofck, wlicn the function was brought to a close.

SPORTS COMMITTEE. On Sunday morning at about half past two o’clock a four-roomed cottage owned by Mr !). Maxwell war totally destroyed by lire. Mr Long ley, the tenant, had only shifted mu on Saturday, and the outbreak is a complete mystery. The building wao only a few feet away from Mr J. A Stanford’s bouse, which was occupied by Mr A.
