JAPAN AND CALIFORNIA.

o A PROPOSED BOYCOTT. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] Tokio, April IT. Japan Ims protested against California’s anti-Japanese legislation. The irritation is growing. One party proposes a Californian boycott. The newspapers describe the legislation as great a breach of treaty as the Panama Bill. The Chamber of Commerce has cabled to commercial heads in San Francisco and Los Angelos emphasising the probable loss of trade.

The foreign press declare that the situation is an object lesson to Japan, where foreigners are not allowed to own land, despite the Diet’s law of 1910, which has not been promulgated.
