NORFOLK ISLAND.
ADMINISTRATIVE AMENITIES. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] Sydney, April 14. Mr William Houston, C.M.G., De-puty-Administrator of Norfolk Island, has resigned. The reason is not stated, but it is believed that he clashed on a matter of principle with the Administrator, Sir Gerald Strickland. QUESTION OF ADMINISTRATION. (Received 9.35 a.m.) Sydney, April 15. It is stated that there will be a complete reorganisation of the stall' at Norfolk Island. It is understood that the Governor (Sir Gerald Strickland) looks upon the Island as a distinct Crown Colony, and ho does not share the view that he is Administrator by reason of being Governor of New South Wales, but is solely responcible to the Colonial Office , and does not act with the advice of the New South Wales Executive Council.
One reason advanced for the changes is the desire to curtail the expenditure and administration of the Island.
