AMUSEMENTS.

HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE. The usual excellent house greeted the big change at His Majesty’s Theatre last night, and the new series met with a very gratifying reception. Included in the programme is a picture specially imported by the management. It is a remarkable film telling in a masterly fashion the story of the writing by Mrs Julia Ward Howe, of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” The arts and devices of cinematography are in strong evidence in the scenes which illustrate that great hymn, and many 1 beautiful and striking effects are obtained. “The Danites,” or “The Destroying Angels” depicts a period in Mormon history, when that great religious body possessed unlimited powers over its subjects. The “destroying ailgels” were really hired assassins, and the somewhat gruesome' story that the picture tells, is that of a Moi mon family, who had offended the elders, and were, therefore, doomed to extermination. Tie woman, her husband .and child perished, seeks .revenge,, but she is -dealing with brains morb clever than hCr own, and fails in tlie end. “Her I 'Gift” a splendid stock exchange story, find “The Power of a Hymn,” a well-acted American drama, are both good pictures. In North .Germany,” and “Life in Aden Camp” are scenics of merit, the latter film being of special interest. “The Bachelor’s Bride” and “Mary’s Folicenuyd* are of the comics, which are .unusually igood. Tq’-nigbtAhe sam^, bill will be given. ' “THE FOLLIES.”

To-night this clover company, who made themselves popular here a few months ago, will appear in the Town Hall, and again a pleasant evening’s entertainment is assured. Mr Percy Clifton will introduce new humorous items. Mr Kennedy Black and Miss Iris Edgar will sing new “muddled” number's. Mr Hugh C. Steyne will “frivol” in his usual style. The Lussanne sisters will introduce new dances and quaint ditties. Miss Cissy O’Keefe (contralto), who was such a favourite here, will he gladly welcomed hack, as also will her brother, Mr Clifford O’Keefe, the fine basso of the company. Lovers of refined drawing-room entertainments are advised not to miss “The Follies” tonight. Box plan at Grubb’s music warehouse. No extra charge for booking. 1
