THE TERRITORIALS.

ORIXGI CAMP. The month of April- v.ill he a bxi«y month for all connected v.ith the Territorials. Each company in the XI. Regiment Ims already appointed its “butcaers,” “clerks,” and “issuers,” and these men will' leave here on April 9th to. make preliminary arrangements. On the 12th, two men from each company will proceed to the “front” as an advance party to erect tents, etc., etc. On tne 14th, all those men who are not sufficiently advanced in their training will go into camp, followed four days later by the main body. The camp will break up on April 26th. This year’s camp will, of course, be on a much larger scale than the previous one, and the results of the big event will bo looked forward to with interest. Last year, caterers were employed in the commissariat department, but this year everything will he done by the Defence Department. The regimental cooks, who have had the benefit of a course of instruction at Trentliam, will be given an opportunity of displaying their skill. The training this year will he much more advanced than that of last year, and will therefore he much more interesting, seeing that it will be under service conditions-.

As regards attendance at the camp, it i> interesting to note that Mr AV. (I. Kerrick, S.M., has been allowing defaulting Territorials to “make good” by adjourning their cases until after the camp. The leniency on the part of the Bench betokens strong me a ures when the camp is over and the offer not accepted. Last year the muster of the Taranaki Rifles was a record for Xew Zealand, and it is hoped that the reputation gained will bo sustained this year. In athletics, also, the Regiment has a name that must bo lived up to.
