INDUSTRIAL WEEK. (Per Press Association,) Christchurch, March 31. t Encouraged by the success which attended Industries Week last year, the Canterbury Industrial Association has decided to ask the business ■ i men of the city to make a similar exhibition of dominion-made goods thjs year. Matters are already in train for this year’s Industries Week, which it is hoped will be held about the end of April. WATER FOR TEMUKA. Timaru, March 31. The Borough of Temuka’s high pressure water supply has Ibeen complot- '■ ,ed, and water was turned .on to-day • by the Mayoress (Mrs Hayhurst). At a trial the water through a half-inch nozzle was thrown 60 feet high. The deliver had been taken before the water is obtained from a creek at Winchester. There are 300 chains of main pipes and 1160 chains of reticulation at present. CUSTOMS AND EXCISE REVENUE Invercargill, March 31. The Customs returns for March are the" highest on record for Invercargill, being £30,490, as compared with £28,552 for the corresponding quarter of 1912. The beer duty paid was £466, compared with £348.
MR McNAB’S MOVEMENTS. Palmerston North, March 31. A paragraph in circulation that Mr McNab intends while in England seeking election to the House of Commons in place of Dr. Chappie, member for Stirlingshire, was denied entirely by Mr McNab when his attention was drawn to it. The rumour further states that Dr. Chappie is giving up politics at Home because it is too costly, and coming to the dominion) to look after his business interests. Mj; McNab said this was the first he had heard of it. CARGO PILLAGING. Nelson, March 31. Five local firms have suffered; through cargo pillaging during transit. In one case a cpnsignment of felt hats from Italy was found to be short by 28 articles, valued at £2O. Another firm’s loss is more ruinous, being the contents of a. case of furs imported from Germamy and valued at between £6Q and £7O. In this case theft was discovered.
