The body of the late King of Greece is being conveyel from Salonika aboard the Royal yacht, under escort by British, German, Italian, Austrian, Russian, and French cruisers. —Cable. . His Excellency the Governor has yi. intimated his acceptance of the position of Patron of the Navy League in New Zealand. / The Rev. Mr and Mrs Reader, who are being transferred to Huntly, were farewelled by their congregation at Inglewood on Thursday evening and presented with souvenirs. Miss W. Jemison has resigned her position as assistant teacher at the Tariki school. The resignation of Miss M. Moir, sole teacher at Mangoehu, has also been accepted. Mr Murray, the biologist, in Shackleton’s Antarctic Expedition, has joinf ed Steffanaon’s party for the Arctic trip, states a London cable. Mr and Mrs W. E. Carter, Hunter Road, are leaving about the end of next month on a trip to the Old Country, says the Eltham Argus. They expect to be away for about twelve months. Mr Billing, who is leaving Inglewood to assume charge of Messrs ' Weston and Weston’s legal office during Mr Claude Weston’s visit to England, was the recipient of a presentation from the local cricket and golf clubs on Saturday last.
Miss Jemison, assistant mistress at the Tnriki School, 'was last night presented with a handsome afternoon tea set in view of her approaching marriage by the choir of the local Methodist Church, of whichc she had for many years acted as organist.
The Prime Minister (Hon. W. F. Massey), in a wire to Mr J. B. Richards (secretary of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce) intimated that he would bo in Stratford on Wednesday next, accompanied by the Minister for Public Works (Hon. W. Fraser), when he would have pleasure in accepting the invitation of the Borougli Council, County Council, and Chamber of Commerce to a banquet to be held in the Stratford Town Hall.
The following temporary appointments have been made by the Taranaki Education Board :—Miss I. Craig, assistant at Te Kiri; Miss M. Blyth and Miss J. Auld, assistants at Tuna; Miss K. Wilson, head teacher at Marco; Miss E. Macgregor, assistant at Tariki; Miss M. Tobin, sole teacher at Opua; Mr K. Ellicott, sole teacher Aat Waingongoro; Miss E. M. Clarke, assistant at Inglewood; Miss E. Knox, assistant at Midhirst.
Fifty-three applications were received for the position of secretary of the Southland Education Board yesterday, and the following three will be asked to meet the Board on Friday.—Messrs. A.
