NOTES BY CICERO.

The autumn meeting of the Auckland Racing Club will open on Saturday next, and judging by the splendid acceptances received, all previous records should be broken. Proceedings Will open with the Tradesmen’s Handicap, for which event Maxwell is sure to be strongly supported. Ten are still loft in the Brighton Hurdles. If Prophet is as well as claimed, there will be no need to look further for a favourite. Soltano and Salzburg will fight their Trentham battle over again in the Northern Champagne Stakes. The former is very w T ell just now, and appears to stay the better. The appearance of Bobrikoff in the Easter field should infuse a lot of interest in that event. The black champion will carry the welter weight of 10.4. Advance had no difficulty in winning with 9.6, and on the second day of the eame meeting successfully carried 10.5 to the front in the Racing Club Handicap. Nonette, admittedly not such a good performer as Mr Lowry’s gelding, wmn the Easter under 9.11. Bleriot and Potoa are fancied in some quarters, but Bobrikoff will probably start a big favourite. A number of smart sprinters are engaged in the President’s Handicap, including Crown Pearl and Bootle. The Onslow Stakes will serve to introduce a very smart filly to the Auckland racegoers. Hayfly is the one referred to, and hails from Kararnu. No less than twenty-two have paid up in the Nelson Handicap, and Almeida and Toreador will probably carry the “bullion.” A number of those figuring in the Eden Handicap are engaged in the Easter Handicap. St Amans is fist coming to form, and is well in.

Golden Glow, well known in these parts, won tho second steeplechase at Ohinemuri. A half-brother, by Soult to Bronze, won the Nursery Handicap at Rosehill last week. St. Toney, whose leg got rather badly cut with a rope during “firing) ” is at present under the case of Vet. Mason. Tho names of the Stratford-owned horses Rector Girl and Red Lupin, appear in the Feilding acceptances. Up to tho present Bobrikoff has contested forty-eight races. Of, these he has won twenty-four, has filled second place on six occasions, ten tfpics third place has been his lot, while the great son of Finland has only been unplaced eight times. A trio of local trotters in Sundial, Wynotte, and Lucky Child are engaged at the Wanganui meeting, which opens on Saturday next. There are large fields engaged, and the meeting should be a good one.
