DOMINION NEWS.

ALLEGED GAMING-HOUSE

(Per Press Association.)

Wellington, March 14

Richard Eager and Samuel Jarvis were charged at the Magistrate’s Court to-day with keeping a common gaming house, and eight others with being found on the premises. Two detectives were subjected to a vigorous cross-examination by counsel for the defence. One admitted that he had no search warrant and no right to take away a pack of cards found there. Counsel also objected to the alleged collaboration by detectives in the preparation of their notes. The Magistrate dismissed the charges ' against the defendants, who admittedly were not found on the premises, but were stopped after they had left the house, and reserved judgment in the cases of Eager and Jarvis.
