A UNIQUE CASE.
WRITTEN ON FIELD-GLASS CASE
AND A RIFLE BUTT,
At tho inquest in Masterton on Thursday on the body of the late Mx Robert J. Ewington, one of the mosi remarkable wills that can surely be on record in the world, was produced. A witness named John Fletcher stated that when he arrived at the spo: where deceased was lying, he spokt to Ewington, who asked him to ge. his fleld-filass case and rifle. Ewingtoi said, “I have written on them,” am. asked Fletcher to read the writing ti him. Witness did so, and then ask ed Ewington, “Is that right?” Tlu deceased replied, “Yes.” Deceaset then asked witness to copy tho writing and send it to his brother Charle. at Masterton. The writing on .the field-glass . case, ' which had beer scratched With a piece of- wire or x nail, was as follows : “Look after Maudie and the chil dren. Look after things, Will. II ap point R. Dagg and Charley. (Signed, —Bob.”
On the same case were scratchec the words “'Hard luck!”—Bob. Or the butt of the rifle there were scratched these words : ,
“Dear Charley,—Give Will Harding every chance, and he will help Maude and nvy family. Put him on the right road.—(Signed) Bob”
There was also scratched on tin rifle butt the words, “Don’t forget Will Harding, and spare expense.’ Written on the bottom of tho field glass case were the following words in plain letters: “R. Dagg and Charley.
The Coroner had the writing care fully attested on Thursday, and it will be used as the last testament oi the deceased; no other will having been left. '
