Her Majesty Queen Alexandra was married to the late King Edward cm March 10th, 1863, so that now fifty years have gone by since her arrival in England. A short London cable-j gram to-day states that the new spa-1 pers publish long appreciatory notices of the Queen Mother, who had specially requested that there hs> no public icjoicing. Her Majesty is a sistei of the King of Greece, the Empress-Dow-a<i.r of Russia, and the Duchess of Cumberland.

Obituary: Sir James Graham, after an operation for an internal complaint, states a Sydney message. lir. Buist, M. 8., F.R.C.S., Edinburgh, has arrived in Eltham and is assisting Dr. Cooper. Mr F. Lacey, who some time agoi was successfully associated with Mr T. I. Lamason’s land agency business, 'has again joined Mr Lamason as land salesman. Mr “Ken” Watson, formerly on the Public Works staff at Whangamomona, and now stationed at Wellington, is at present on a holiday visit to Stratford. Our readers will learn with regret of the death of Mr James Read, a well-known and highly respected resident of Stratford, who passed away this morning at his residence, Pembroke Rond, at the ripe age of 85 years, after a brief illness. Ihe late Mr Read has been resident in the Do minion for over forty years. He leaves a wife, son, and two daughters.

Mr W. D. Anderson, of the firm o' Wake and Anderson, was entertainer by members of the Stratford Club la« 1 evening. Mr S. H. James, vice-pre-sident (in the absence of the president) on behalf of members presented Mi Anderson with a token of the esteen and goodwill in which he is held, ant wished the new firm a prosperous time in the North. Mr Anderson suitabh replied. Mr and Mrs Anderson leave Stratford this afternoon for their nev home in Auckland.
