DOMINION RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

TO-DAY’S FIRING. (Per Press Association.) Trentham, March 6. Business at Trentham commenced this morning with the completion of the Judging-di stance Competition, five, distances. Clifton (Pahiatua) and Hubbard (sth Regt.) divided first and second prizes, taking £4 10s each; Powell (Akarana) 27, Wilton (Manriceville) 26, each won £3; Hudson (Palmerston North), Regt.) £2 each, 24 each.

The Hawke’s Bay Match, 900 yards, 10 shots was started in a calm but about, 10 a.in. a rear breeze sprang up which seemed to upset the calculations of a large number of riflemen.

There was, however, some fine marksmanship. Frank (Canterbury) scored the possible of 50. Henderson (Sounds), Powell (Akarana), Croxton (Karori), Narboy (11th Rogit.), and Marshall (Karori) got 48 each, and there were several 17’s. Drummond, who was well up in tho aggregates, through some ipysterious cause, failed to hit the target once, and thus put himself out of chance. Potter, who started with a lead for the Belt, with 394, broke up, his score being only 21. James (Opawa) put on 40, which brought him into first position, with 425; Mace (New Plymouth) being second with 424.

Tho Tatanaki Match, 1000 yards, ten shots, the last of the series for tho Belt, was won by Sutherland, of Goodwood, a tyro, who put on ten bull’s eyes. Drummond again failed to bit the target. James still leads in the aggregate, having put on 43, making his total score 468. Marenzi (Kaitawa) came up into second place with 461. Milroy and Mace, who were second and third, only put on 26 and 28 respectively, thus allowing a dozen others to get ahead of them. McMurray (Te Awamutn), Loveday (Woodville) each 459, follow Marenzi. There are twenty-one entries for tho Teams Championship, Potter again failed, scoring only 31.
