Sydney, March 5. ■ The body of a girl named Esther Porter, fourteen years old, residing at Bankstown, was found near the Punchbowl railway station, with the head battered in and,-other terrible injuries. The indications point to murder. The girl was last seen in the vicinity of Punchbowl station on Monday morning, when she returned from visiting her mother at the hospital. The body was covered with brush. It is believed that she was outraged before being murdered. Tramps are suspected. DAUGHTER ACCUSED OF SHOOTING FATHER. (Received 8.30 a.m.) Sydney, March G. A young woman named Kate Siely was arrested at Shell Harbour on a charge of murdering her father. The inquest has opened. Mistress Siely gave evidence that deceased drank heavily, and systematically ill-treated her daughters. On Saturday night he was so violent that she obtained police protection. On Sunday morning, after more drinking, he struck her and forced the daughter to give him money. He got a knife and a gun and threatened to murder the whole family. Kate was struggling to get the gun when it exploded and shot her father in the head. Another witness said he visited the house shortly after the tragedy. Mrs Siely told him that Kate shot her father, and Kate added: “Father was going to kill mother, and I did it to save her.”
