NORMANBY SHOW.
A Nonnanby correspondent writes; The Horticultural Society, which celebrates its thirtieth birthday next Tuesday and Wednesday, has in the past done a vast amount of good to the district in a number of ways. Potato trials wore probably the most important, and some years ago, in response to requests from the Society, specimen potatoes were sent from all parts, of the world. These were planted in Xonnanhy, and the resulting products from IMb varieties were submitted to two well-known judges, with the re-1 suit that “Up-to-Date” came out on top, and to this day this potato has proved to hs one of the host, if not tin* best, of table potatoes. Experiments with manures were also carried out, and valuable papers on gardening and other matters wore read by the late Mr 11. T. Thompson. Intend-, ing exhibitors at this year’s show will,j by perusal of the schedule, see that, very liberal prizes are offered for collections of farm roots. Throughout j the vegetable classes the prize money j lias been increased, which shouhl mean keen competition. The public schools have not been forgotten, substantial specials being allotted to both vege-l tables and flowers. Many prizes are' offered in the cookin ';, preserve*, and mi eeilanemis sections, and poultry | fanciers will not do wrong in apply- 1 ing for schedules. Stratford should, as in the past, send entries Forward i'reeiv and attend the Show in force. !
