- o ATTEMPTED WIFE MURDER. (Per Press Association.) Nelson, February 24., The Supreme Court sessions opened to-day before Justice Chapman. There are two criminal cases for trial. Robert Alfred Schwass, charged with (1) attempting to murdetr his wife by cutting her throat; (2)- wounding and doing grevious bodily harm; and (3) assaulting her so as to cause grievous bodily harm, was found guilty on the second and third counts. In sentencing prisoner to ten years’ imprisonment, the Judge said that he had seldom known of a more barbarous and vruel offence. POULTRY CHAMPIONSHIP: I. f Nelson,. February 25. The largest and most enthusiastic meeting of poultry i men for many years was held last . night. It was unanimously decided to' affiliate with the New Zealand Championship Association just registered at Wellington. Mr E. Gallichan, secretary of the new Association, was present, and explained the proposed working of the championship body. There would be championship shows' at Wellington, Christchurch, and four provincial championships would be given; One for Otago and Southland combined, one for Canterbury, one for Wellington, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Marlborough and Westland combined, and one for Auckland. Mr Gallicnan will visit other centres. The .new Association will be in working order for next show season. Three Wellington societies' have affiliated. Nelson is the fourth. Picton, Blenheim, and other societies are favorably disposed.
