Assassinations have had little effect on tho general rejoicings over the peace declaration. The Cabinet ordered the arrest of the military officers concerned in tho affray in which Made'ro was killed. The United States Minister asserts that the crime occurred as the result of an attempt made by Madero’s friends to rescue him en route to prison, to which he and Suarez were being transferred at the suggestion oi the United States Minister in order to secure for them more comfortable quarters. Madero was shot twice in tho head, while Suarez was riddled with bullets.
