UNITED FIRE BRIGADES.
(Per Press Association.) Wanganui, February 19. The Fire Brigade competitions were commenced to-day in glorious weather. The entries are exceptionally heavy, being a record for the dominion. The following arc the results so far: — Ladder Race (one man); —Booth (Oarnaru) 8 2-bsec, 1 ; Peters (Hawera) 8 4-ssec, 2; McTeinsley (Invercargill Railway) 7 4-ssec, 3. Armit (Roslyn) Bsec, Bain (Spit) 8 3-s:sec, and Duncan (Dunedin City) 8 4-ssec also competed. In the first run-off Oarnaru and Hawera led with 7 3-sscc, the others coming next with 7 3-ssec and the above times are the results of the runs-off of ties.
Manuel Engine (five men) —Tim ant, 1 min Ssec., 1; Carterton, Irain 13 sec, 2 • Masterton, Imin 15 3-ssec, 3. Spit Imin 20sec, Rangiora Imin 20 4-ssec, and Dunedin City Imin 21 4-ssec (also competed). Hose and Hydrant (three men) — Timaru, 21 4-ssec, 1 ; Dannevirke, 23 2-osec, 2. Dunedin City and Gisborne are to run off for the third place.
Coupling Event (two men)—-Danne-virke, 39sec, 1; Timaru, 41 1-osec, 2; Patea, 44sec, 3. Napier (six sec penalty) 60 l-sscc and Hastings 42sec, also started. Patea and Napier had to run off for their respective places. In the Disabled Hose event for five men. Hillside Railway, Imin 12 2-ssec, Hastings Imin 15 3-ssec, and Alexandra, Imin 17 l-ssec are the best so far.
In the Disabled Hose event (five men) the result was: Hillside Workshops (Dunedfn) 1, Invercargill 2, Dunedin City 3, Hastings 4, Alexandra 5, Spit G. Winners’ time Imin 12 2-ssec.
