SPORTING.

(By Cicero. The Woodville Club have received good acceptances for their Autumn meeting, which opens to-morrow. A large field will probably start in the Hack Hurdles. Kauroa looked particularly ’well at New Plymouth, and as he is a good jumper, is sure to be well backed. Of those engaged in the Wharite Hack Expect and Black Lupin will claim most admirers. The Cup field is small, but should provide a good race. Lady Moutoa ran well at Foxton over a similar course and will probably start favourite. A number of smart hacks are engaged in the County. Alccto showed fair form at Foxton, and is a smart sprinter, when •supported by his party. A large field of moderate performers have paid the acceptance in the President’s Handicap. Katua is right at the top of form, and is sure to have a large following. An even lot remain in the Victoria Handicap. Mediterranean, who was backed by his party at Trentham, will be a starter. A field of really good sprinters will probably line up for the Telephone Handicap. Vibration, who is fast when well, and BorOnia (a recent winner) should divide favouritism. Lucerne, who died at Hawera on Saturday, had a really good record. The Lupin—Lady of the Lake filly faced the starter on nine occasions, four of which events she won. Midnight Sun was handicapped to carry nine stone (top weight) in the Bond Cup of £SOO, decided at Mel-, bourne last Saturday. Mendip, who has been troubled in the wind of late, has been sent to his owner’s farm. The St. Paul gelding will probably be operated on for the said trouble in the near future. Advantage (Advance —Brown Spec), who raced in the dominion with fair success, won the Flying Handicap at the recent Launceston (Tas.) meeting. Sam Pan ,the big, upstanding gelding in O’Cox’s stables, is to be given a chance over the hurdles. The San Fran gelding has already giver, evidence of jumping ability.
