j WINSLADE THE CHAMPION. Tho concluding stages of tho grand aggregate match for the championship rifle shot of Taranaki proved very exciting. In the final ten shots at 1000 yards, Winslade put on 44.. Hum- | phries followed with five bulls in succession, then an inner and four more bulls, making 49 and tieing. In the shoot-off Winslade won somewhat easily, putting up the fine score of 24 out of 25. Sergeant-M'ajor Bond headed the tyro list. The Patea match was won by Grover, with 97, after ho had protested against incorrect marking, which would have robbed him of a hulls-eyc. The results of the shooting were: — TEAMS MATCH, open to team of five men from any Territorial Company or Defence Rifle Club; seven shots each of 300, 600 and 600yds. First prize £5 and Tisch Memorial Cup; second prize £3; third prize, £1 ss. In this match Kaponga, who were leading by r three points at the two longer ranges, scored 155 points, and managed to retain their 10/vd, annexing tho cup. The New Plymouth Rifle Club’s first team scored 156 and advanced from third to second place, ousting the Patea Club, who only compiled 151 at the short range. Detailed scores:—

Roots, Kaponga. 1913 Rifleman Winslade, New Plymouth. Rifleman Winslade, the champion, is a well-known New Zealand rifle shot, having been a member of the Wanganui, Opaki and other clubs. He has been a frequent visitor to Trentham, and on several occasions shot into the first ten; in fact, on one occasion he was placed third. He has represented New Zealand both in England and Australia . He came to New Plymouth about two years ago, and joined the New Plymouth Rifle Club. Pres. Humphries, the runner-up, is a well-known Taranaki rifle shot, and an ex-New Zealand representative footballer.—News.
