DEFENCE OF THE EMPIRE.
CANADIAN NAVAL DEBATE. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) • United Press Association.) Ottawa, February 5. Mr T. Quapelle, a member of the House, continuing the naval debate, said that he was disinclined to believe that the Empire was in any way endangered by Germany’s aggression. Germany and Japan had been flirting lately; therefore the real place for battleships was the Pacific. He ridiculed the idea that the placing of a fleet in the Pacific was likely to lead to separation. If the Empire was ever destroyed it would be due to the ultra-imperialists and jingoes. The tighter one drew the bonds of Empire the more likely they were to break. CONFIDENTIAL MATTER. (Received 9.50 a.m.) London, February 5. The Admiralty is omitting from the Navy list the number of guns carried by each ship. This information is now considered confidential.
