Cricket opened in dull wfeather on a good wicket. Queensland, in their first innings, scored 330 (Sheppard 42, Thompson 116, Evans 75). Matthews took three for 107, and Armstrong four for 73. Victoria, in their first innings lost one wicket for 12 runs.

AUCKLAND LOSES PLUNKET

Auckland, January 31

Canterbury won the Plunket Shield, defeating Auckland by eight wickets. Auckland’s second innings closed for ‘292 (Taylor 92, Oliff 23). Wanting 119 to win, Canterbury scored 122 for t!ie loss of two wickets. Lusk scored 82.
