ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
DIED IN THE HOSPITAL. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, January 27. C. Clyne, a waterside worker, who was injured while unloading cargo from the steamer Waihora on Thursday, died in the hospital yesterday. FOUR MEN DROWNED. Christchurch, January 27. A boating accident occurred at Saltwater Creole yesterday, and four men were drowned. The party were trawl--mg near the north bank, and entered a punt to cross to the southern side. The south-west wind made the water choppy. Seven men were in the punt. Water was shipped, and the boat capsized. The members of the party were clothed. John Ashby (Sefton) was wearing waders, got ashore; William Clark (Sefton), swam ashore; Matthew Gallagher (Christchurch) clung to the boat, but the other four—Frank Powell, Leslie Parker, Robert Rapsun (all of Sefton) and Frederick Challis (Christchurch) —were drowned. Powel, middle-aged leaves a wife and eight children, Challis has a wife and a child aged four months. All the bodies except that of Challis were found this morning. SUICIDE BY SHOT G UN. Christchurch, January 27. James Edmondson Johnson, aged 37, a sheep buyer, living at Governoi » Bay. committed suicide yesterday by shooting himself with a shot gun. At the inquest a verdict of “Unsound mind” was returned. A STABLEMAN’S SUICIDE. Auckland, January 27. Fred Burns, a middle-aged man, who kept stables, at Pukeko.be, committed suicide by cutting his throat with a razor. It is understood the cause was business worry.
