AUSTRALIANS AND CHURCH
(Received 9.35 a.m.) London, January 2J. Sir George Reid, presiding at the Colonial Continental Church Society, eulogised the Rev. Mr. Watts Ditchlield’s address. Ho did not know of an Englishman visiting Australia without returning a better man and a better Imperialist. Christianity was, perhaps, less evident in the churches than formerly, but there was more world-leav-ening of the lump of humanity. Australians were a bit slack on religious tack, and added that there was a grand work for the church to, do there, as in England. CHRISTIAN SOCIAL UNION. / (Received 10.25 a.m.) London, January 24. The Bishop of London, addressing the Christian Social Union, said that the 24 years he had not seen such an improvement in the sweating and overcrowding of labour. The movement was really a religious one. The labour leaders were religious from the bottom of their souls. The Church ought not to be satisfied with existing things, and in that sense ought to be revolutionists.
