BOAR AND BABY.

CHILD HORRIBLY MUTILATED

Melbourne, January 13

The six months’ old baby of' Mr. and Mrs. Atkinson, of Bright, was asleep in a cradle in the shade of a tree when a boar broke out of a sty some distance away and made straight for the cradle.

There was no one about, and the animal dragged the child out by the leg, which it horribly mutilated. Attracted by the cries of the child, Mr. McKinnon endeavoured to release the baby, and the boar turned on him, and fought savagely. The boar was eventually beaten off. The child had to undergo an operation, which left it in a critical condition.
