A gang of burglars spent the weekend in an unsuccessful attempt to force a safe containing £BO,OOO worth ol pearls at Rubin, in a jewel merchant's office in Holburn. Tiiey were disturbed and left behind them £6O worth of scientific safe-breaking appliances, including twenty cylinders of oxygen and acetylene.
