A cablegram yesterday stated that Thomas Betts, president of the Port Pirie branch of the Masons and Bricklayers’ Union, was found shot near the Broken Hill Proprietary works. He stated that he went for a walk prior to retiring for the night, and a stranger rushed him and fired twice. Betts’ condition is critical.
