FORESTRY COMMISSION.
TO BE APPOINTED
(Per Press Association.) Auckland, January 17
The Prime Minister (Mr Massey) states that the Government intend, within the next few weeks, to appoint a Commission of experts to inquire and report into matters cc nnected with Forestry, deal wAh forests, and the areas that should be set apart in different districts in the Dominion for scenic or climatic purposes; with the subject of afforcsta tion and the trees that sho i(d be planted, and the most suitable localities ; with the length of time the present timber supply would last,and the probable demand for timber ;n the comparatively near future.. As a result of his visit to the North, it is probable that an area of, 10,000 acres will be opened up for settle nciit.
