WOOL SALES.
(Received 11.45 a.m.) London, January 16. At the wool sales the prices were firm at full opening rates, with good competition in all sections. At the wool sales the following prices were realised: —Pakipaki, top 14d, average 12d; Oakleigh, top 13id, average ll|d. Sydney, January 16. The week’s wool sales were marked by an active general demand. Value.' were maintained, excepting for crossbreds, which slightly weakened towards the close, Melbourne, January 16. Wool.—Competition is keen and the strong opening rates are well maintained.^ London, January 16. Wheat is steady but in limited demand. The American visible supply is 122,643,000 quarters. * THE CHEESE MARKET. Wellington, January 16. Joseph Nathan and Co. have been advised by their London house that a meeting of cheese importers will be held in London on January 21 with the idea of fixing the price of ,cheese at 62s per cwt. THE MEAT TRADE. Wellington, January 16. The New Zealand Producers’ Association met to-day and considered the suggestion to utilise the West of England ports for distributing produce shipped Home, owing to the inability to secure facilities for handling at the Port of London. This suggestion was made by Mr. W. D. Lysnar, who explained the position of affairs, and outlined a scheme for handling New Zealand produce through the western channels. The scheme was approved but owing to the absence of some members was not finally adopted. This will be done at a later meeting, after which Mr. Lysnar will tour the Dominion and explain the scheme to pro ducers.
