BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING. The Council met in the Municipal Chambers last evening, when the following Councillors were present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr. W. P. Kirkwood), Messrs. R. Dingle, T. Lawson, J. Thompson, .1. D. Healy, R. McK. Morison Jos. W. Boon, and S. Ward. Correspondence. Mr. S. J. Pivac wrote requesting that the Council make certain alterations to his shop leased from the Council.—Permission given to Mr. Pivac to carry out the alterations, tht cost to be borne by Mr. Pivac. Mr. W. H. Clemow drew the attention of the Council to the state of the Brecon Road, south of Opunake Road. Bullock teams had been carting stone over it, and had considerably knock ed about the road.—Referred to tin Works Committee.
Mr. W. L. Kennedy requested that the Council would remove a bank o' earth at the corner -of Romeo Stree and Broadway. Not only was tin bank unsightly, but it was a harbou for blackberries, which had spread tf bis section adjoining.—Referred to th Works Committee.
Mr. Bert Harkness quoted £24 fo a canopy for the Council’s road roll or, and similar to that furnished fo the Stratford County Council’s mach : ne. Canvas would be £4 16s extra.— Further quotations to be obtained b; the clerk.
Mr. A. B. Burrell requested to ballowed to level the Borough reserv situated in Broadway South, next t< Dr. Cameron’s, and to remove the soi to the Public Works section in Julie Street. He understood that the Pub Jc Works Department were promise: this earth on these conditions. —Cr Healy gave notice of motion to re scind the motion giving the Public Works Department the right to re nove the earth.
Mr. J. Martin wrote asking if tin Council would supply him with fiv yards of broken metal at —Acceded to, price being 10s pe vard.
The Secretary of the Stratford Fir. Brigade (Mr. E. A. Drake) wrote stating that he was instructed to in form the Council that the Bell Towe at the South Station was in a very bat state of repair, and that unless see. co at once it would probably collapse. —The work will be put in hand im mediately. Mr. T. H. Penn, Secretary of tin Stratford Hospital and Charitable Ah Board, forwarded the petition of cer tain ratepayers re the removal c scene of operations of the Agricul tural Department’s as regards diseas i d stock. Cr. R. McK. Morison moved that r mpy of the letter be sent to the Minister for Public Health, strongly urg ing that the petition be.acceded to. Cr. Ward moved that the Lightim Committee bring up a special repor regarding the lamp brackets require to be in position by Ist April, am submit same to the next meeting.Ssconded by Cr. Lawson and carried. Overseer's Report. The Borough Overseer reported "he following works have been com pleted: 11J chains of lin. pipe hav been laid in Romeo Street east of Or lando Street; 2 chains have been lah in Ariel Street to connect Mr. Scott’: property; 2i chains laid in Cordeli; Street to connect Mr. Butchart’s pro perty; total cost including conne< cions £27 2s Gd. Eleven chains hah in Craig Street cost, including con ncctions, £l7 10s. An entrance ha been made to the Isolation Ward ant to the Hospital gate in Mirand, Street South. A footpath has bee made in Fenton Street from Mirand Street to entrance to King Ed wart Park—cost £l3 15s 9d. Two hundret and seven cubic yards of metal am 144 cubic yards of shingle have beei crushed on various dates from the 4tl to the 13th of last month, at a cost o' 2s 9d per yard. During this timnine men worked for a total of 48' hours or an average of 54 hours each making a total of 6 and 2-3rd day;

Loose stones have beer raked off Regan Street, Broadway South to Opunake Road, and Opunaki Road from Broadway. Pago Stree from its junction with Hamlet Stree' has been scarified and rolled down also a few chains of Miranda Str-n.l where the Fire Brigade practise. Gr.w has been cut in various streets in im Borough. A 9in. concrete pic • culvert has been inserted, in Regan Street, at its junction with Cor'elm Street. I wouM suggest a truck of Din ui.-i Gin. c r. :ete pipes be procured, because several of the old wooden culverts r.’e c an a I vanced state or ■* r should be replaced with concrete pipes. Tar is also required for footpath maintenance. Crushing operations will be put in hand on Monday next, weather permitting. The following are the streets which should Ire first to be scarified and rolled down when the crusting is finished :— Broadway South Opunake Road, Regan Street, B way from the Bridge to Pembro 1 - 3 Road. —Adopted.
